Hello

Events and Actions

Due to COVID 19, there are very few in-person events planned. We will conduct ZOOM trainings on feminism and race... We'll support and conduct online actions. We will inform you as we have info. Don't forget Chapter General Meetings, and Board Meetings.

Current Action Listing

On Monday, July 20 at 12pm, GO-NOW is co-sponsoring an action with     SEIU (Service Employees International Union) - an organization with 2-million members, united by the belief in the dignity and worth of workers and the services they provide, and dedicated to improving the lives of workers and their families, and creating a  more just and humane society. The action will be for two purposes:   to protest for Black Lives Matter, and to protest for a Union at Valencia. Valencia has fought hard against unions. Others across the nation are participating in this day of action.

This is a good action for NOW, because it addresses priorities we have in terms of Black Lives Matter, a living wage, and the right to organize.

Please see below for details of this action,

       Here are           the details:

WHEN:           July 20th @ 12pm - 2pm
WHERE:           Sunshine High School- 6600 Old Winter Garden Rd. Orlando, Fl. 32835
Route: Provided to the participants, on the day of the event.  End point is near           the start point.

WHY:           "National Day of Action" the SEIU and other civil rights           organizations all across America, are standing together in solidarity           to fight for workers' rights, end racial injustice, support minority           communities, and Black Lives Matter. The adjunct professors at           Valencia college have been fighting to unionize for 3 years, with           many blocks from the higher administration. They have even gone as           far as to hire an anti-union law firm to block workers from           voting. This car caravan is to show that the Valencia           adjuncts and the greater Orlando community are united, and           support the forming of an adjunct professor labor union.

         HOW CAN YOU HELP?
By showing up with your car decorated with the following           slogans
         -Black Lives Matter
         -End Poverty Wages
         -Faculty Vote
         -Don't disenfranchise Us/ Adj. professors
-Make Black Lives Matter @ Valencia
         -Adj professor deserve rights
(or any other relevant slogan/sign/ saying)

*If you cannot pre-decorate your car we will have art supplies at the           meet up location.

*You do not have to decorate your car to participate

June Teenth protest held. Very moving speech by Cynthia Harris.

The FL NOW on Saturday, June 6 at 10am we sponsored a Convoy for Justice. We met at the front of Fashion Square Mall and drove west on SR-50 to Ocoee Police Department (all on Rte 50, except a turn on Bluford; Ocoee Police Department is at 646 Ocoee Commerce Parkway).

Many of us couldn't take the risk of an in-person protest. We decorated our cars any way we wanted. Some statement ideas were:

  • Black Lives Matter
  • Honk for George Floyd
  • In Solidarity
  • I Can't Breathe
  • Don't Shoot
  • Racial Justice...

Used spray chalk, poster boards, streamers...

The speakers were excellent as was the energy--35 cars!.

Please call Debbie Deland with any questions, 407 234-6408.

Tips

For ZOOM video conferences, please download the Zoom app. When we're back to doing actions, please wear a NOW T-Shirt. If you don't have one, wear an issue T-shirt, like 'Keep Abortion Legal', 'There is NO Planet B', etc. When we get back to in-person events, also wear comfortable shoes. Bring water for yourself in a reusable container. Hat and sunscreen are important as we move into summer (first time we may be able to gather).  Due to surge it is unlikely we will be able to gather in protest this summer or fall.
